Check the language before checking difficulty

Ask a reader who did not write the question to point out confusing wording.

  • Replace idioms and culture-specific jokes with literal descriptions.
  • Specify a film’s original title or release year when translated titles differ.
  • Use answer choices of the same type and similar length.
  • Allow enough time for reading; avoid making quick English decoding the competition.

Rewrite two common traps

These examples show wording changes, not automatic translation features.

Instead of “Which city takes the cake?”
Ask “Which of these cities is the capital of the named country?” and supply the country explicitly.
Instead of “Name the film known here as…”
Give the original title, year or a clear plot clue, then ask about a specific character or setting.

Agree translations before the game

Contributors can write questions in the language the group has chosen. If you include two languages in one prompt, have a fluent speaker review both versions so one does not reveal more than the other.

Playloop supports browser participation and private contributions; this guide does not assume automatic question translation or a translated interface. Multiple choice can reduce spelling issues. For typed answers, agree accepted names and transliterations before play and test how the chosen question type handles them.
