Lines for each moment
Each line is a template. Replace the bracketed details before the night.
- Welcome
- “Thanks for coming. Open the link on your phone and pick a name everyone will recognise. We start in two minutes.”
- Rules
- “There are [three] rounds. Each question has a timer. Polls are just for fun and do not score. If you get stuck, shout and I’ll pause.”
- Round change
- “That was [round name]. Next up: [round name], written by [name or ‘someone in this room’].”
- Reveal
- “The answer was [answer]. [Author], do you want to tell us where that came from?”
- Finish
- “Congratulations, [winner]. Thanks to everyone who wrote a question. The best story tonight was [moment].”
Say the rules once, out loud
Disputes start when people learn a rule after it affects their score.
- Whether phones may be used to look up answers.
- How long each question stays open.
- Whether authors score on the questions they wrote.
- How a tie is settled before anyone is tied.
What to do with the quiet moments
While a timer runs, say nothing that hints at the answer. Read the question aloud for anyone who prefers to listen, then let the room think.
After a reveal, a short story from the author is worth more than a scripted joke. In Playloop, the shared display shows the scores, so you do not need to read every total aloud. Mention the top few and move on.
